This is going to be short, but sweet…it has power to dramatically change your life…if you let it.

There’s a story told of identical twins…each twin was adopted by a different family, and lived very far apart from each other. Many years later, they found one another. Someone asked the first twin why he was an alcoholic…he said, “Well, because my father was an alcoholic.” Then they asked the second twin why he never even touched alcohol…he said, “Because my father was an alcoholic.”

It’s crazy, because our society always tells us that we’re victims. Whatever the problem, it’s somebody else’s fault…whether we’re victims of fate or victims of heredity. We’re doomed to fail because we were brought up in dysfunctional family, or we’re simply victims of our environment.

But Scripture makes it crystal clear that our circumstances do not determine who we are; how we respond to our circumstances does. We can allow our circumstances to make us bitter or better…we’re all responsible for the choices we make.

“This command I am giving you today is not too difficult for you to understand, and it is not beyond your reach. For I command you this day to love the Lord your God, and keep his commandments, decrees, and regulations by walking in his ways…But if your heart turns away and you refuse to listen, and if you are drawn away to serve and worship other gods, then I warn you now that you will certainly be destroyed.”
Deuteronomy 30:11, 16-18

God presents us with our options. He even tells us what the consequence of our choice will be…Disobedience leads to death, and Obedience leads to life. May each one of us recognize and accept responsibility for the choices we make!
