WaitingWatercolorOkay, I too am guilty!  Failure to persevere is the most common wall that we run up against in our prayers and intercession.  Is it not true that when we first start praying for something, that something is always in the forefront of our mind?  We raise our petition(s) daily…  days turn into weeks… weeks turn into months… you get the point.

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.”  Luke 18:1

But if we don’t receive a definite yes or no, we most of the time give up or stop praying for it altogether.  This is how the downward spiral begins.  People who have a habit of starting things and not finishing them get a reputation of being a failure.  Those who begin praying about something without ever praying it through to a conclusion form the same habit in prayer.  Giving up always brings discouragement, and discouragement brings doubt and unbelief.  That’s deadly to a person’s prayer life and makes us question God’s goodness.

How long should I pray for something?  Shouldn’t I get to where I stop praying and just trust God?  I think I have a good answer.  We can’t stop praying until the answer comes or until we have complete assurance in our heart that whatever we ask will come to pass.  Living a life of prayer is the key to experiencing and recognizing this God-given assurance.  Wait at God’s promise until He meets you there, because He always returns by the path of His promises.
