So here’s the irony…

As we evangelize the lost–we, who are the peacemakers… usually stir up antagonism and strife! Us peacemakers make war with others by our own Gospel message! Why?

“And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, lest his deeds should be exposed.” John 3: 19

No one wants to hear they’re a sinner and they need to repent. The Bible tells us point blank they are not interested in giving their sin up. Let’s look at what Jesus has to say about this…

“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, and a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.” Matthew 10: 34-36

Being committed as Christians may separate friends and loved ones. In saying this, Jesus wasn’t encouraging disobedience to parents or conflict at home. He was showing us that His presence demands a decision. Of course conflict is going to arise because some will follow Christ and some won’t. As we take up our cross and follow Jesus, our different values, morals and goals will definitely set us apart. Bottom line… the message of peace brings strife!
