Habakkuk was a man who sought answers. He asked tough questions because what he saw going on was very troubling to him. Habakkuk saw a dying world, and it broke his heart. That brings up a good question… as a follower of Christ, are you grieved over the things that grieve God?

Most of the first chapter is devoted to Habakkuk’s bold questions for God. Then in chapter two, God begins to speak. He tells Habakkuk that although it may seem as though the wicked triumph, they eventually will be judged and righteousness will prevail. Yet, hear how Habakkuk concludes his book with a prayer of triumph…

“Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon heights.” Habakkuk 3: 17-19
