Ready to give up? Are your eyes straining to see God’s promises come to pass in your circumstances? Are you discouraged, because your prayers seem to go unanswered? I’m pretty sure God is teaching you patience…

Friends, Let me take you back about ten or eleven years ago to when Muscular Dystrophy was first manifesting itself. My “perfect” world came down crashing. I thought it was the end. Because of the turmoil and chaos going on inside of me, I sought God. But understand, He was the last resort (isn’t it funny how the thing we need so desperately, is the thing we try to run away from?).

So there I was a new Christian, wondering why my life was being torn apart. But God sent a spiritual mentor, who helped me learn how to be a Christian. I truly believe she was a prophet. She spoke many words over me, but the words that really stands out to me are…

“God is working out the fruit of patience.”

God will receive more glory through your patience. Patience eliminates worry. I think of the song, “It is well with my soul.”

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
• Refrain:
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Patience eliminates all want. Yes, God has taught me patience. The reason I can say that is because my priorities have shifted. I’m not saying that I don’t want to be free from Muscular Dystrophy, but that’s no longer my number one priority. My desire for the will of God to be done in my life is stronger than my want for physical healing. If you think about the most pressing trial or crisis in your life, there are things you have either learned or done that wouldn’t have been possible if that trial never came.

Maybe you’re coming out of a long period of waiting… just think about all you have learned. Maybe you’re entering a long period of waiting. And if so, YIELD!! God is with you, and knows all about it. Let Him work out the fruit of patience in you. The fruit of patience will eliminate all weakness. Instead of thinking of waiting as being wasted time, realize that God is preparing His resources and strengthening you as well.

“Be still and know I am God.” Psalm 46: 10
