I think the next thing we’re going spend time talking about is the Awesome Holy Spirit! a.k.a: The Holy Ghost (My elementary school was actually called ~ Holy Ghost School, and my parents still go to Holy Ghost Church).
He’s the Third Person in the Trinity…God ~ The Father, God ~ The Son, and God ~ The Holy Spirit. There are so many things The Holy Spirit does for us, and I’m going to attempt describing some of them…
Trying to get a grip on how this triune Godhead works is difficult, but the best explanation I’ve ever heard goes like this: simply think of water in its three stages; solid, liquid, and gas.
Jesus promised He would never leave us alone. He told us that when He goes back to The Father, He is going to send us a Helper (or an Advocate, Comforter, Encourager, or Counselor)…and this Helper will remind us of everything Jesus taught us while He was still on Earth with us.
Jesus says, “If you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. No, I will not abandon you as orphans-I will come to you. Soon the world will no longer see me but you will see me. Since I live, you will also live. When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”
John 14:15-20

The Holy Spirit is the very presence of God that lives within all believers. But the Holy Spirit worked differently in the Old Testament; The Holy Spirit wasn’t available to everyone like He is to all believers in Christ. God chose someone to do an important job, and His Spirit “came down” and empowered them with strength and ability to get the task done (think of the prophets, kings, judges, and other individuals).

After Jesus’ death and resurrection, the Holy Spirit came upon all believers who put their trust Christ, not only to empower them, but to dwell with them. If you’re a believer in Christ, you can expect God’s Spirit to comfort you ( and we’ll talk about some of the great things He does). You can expect Him to work in and through you.

* Also, I welcome different insights you may have, or even experienced about whichever characteristic of the Holy Spirit we are discussing each day. Feel free to share ~ all of us need this, because isn’t that how we are to continue to grow?
