Let’s continue with prophecies about Jesus in the Old Testament, and how they were fulfilled…

Messiah’s bones were not to be broken: “Each Passover lamb must be eaten in one house. Do not carry any of its meat outside, and do not break any of its bones.” Exodus 12:46

“They must not leave any of the lamb until the next morning, and they must not break any of its bones. They must follow all the normal regulations concerning the Passover.” Numbers 9:12

Jesus, the Lamb of God, was the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the world. He was killed as a Passover lamb was to be killed…

“It was the day of preparation, and the Jewish leaders didn’t want the bodies hanging there the next day, which was the Sabbath (and a very special Sabbath, because it was the Passover). So they asked Pilate to hasten their deaths by ordering that their legs be broken (by breaking their legs, they couldn’t prop themselves up to breath, so their lungs would collapse). Then their bodies could be taken down. So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the two men crucified with Jesus. But when they came to Jesus, they saw that he was already dead, so they didn’t break his legs. One of the soldiers, however, pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water flowed out.” John 19: 31-34

In the Old Testament, we learn of the importance of blood atonement – Every morning and evening, a lamb was sacrificed in the Temple for the sins of the people…“These are the sacrifices you are to offer regularly on the altar. Each day, offer two lambs that are a year old, one in the morning and the other in the evening. It will be a pleasing aroma, a special gift presented to the Lord.” Exodus 29: 38, 41

Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah would be led to the slaughter like a lamb. To pay the penalty for sin, a life had to be given (“The wages of sin are death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6: 23). God chose to provide the sacrifice Himself.

“He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth.” Isaiah 53: 7

Jesus’ silence fulfilled the words of the prophet Isaiah. Pilate was amazed that Jesus didn’t try to defend himself…

“But when the leading priests and the elders made their accusations against him, Jesus remained silent. ‘Don’t you hear all these charges they are bringing against you?’ Pilate demanded. But Jesus made no response to any of the charges, much to the governor’s surprise.” Matthew 27: 12-14

“Then the leading priests kept accusing him of many crimes, and Pilate asked him, ‘Aren’t you going to answer them? What about all these charges they are bringing against you?’ But Jesus said nothing, much to Pilate’s surprise.” Mark 15: 3-5The sins of the world were removed when Jesus died as the perfect sacrifice. Praise Jesus! Nothing would stop Him from completing the work He had come to Earth to do!

“Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.” 1 Corinthians 5:7

“Stop weeping! Look, the lion from the tribe of Judah , the heir to David’s throne, has won the victory.” Revelation 5: 5
